Practical Experience
Kaya Egan's expertise was earned via a Bachelor's degree in Flute Performance from the DePaul School of Music.
She has played in a variety of ensembles, including DePaul Wind Symphony, Concert Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and Baroque Ensemble. In Wind Ensemble she won an audition to play Joel Puckett’s Shadow of Sirius as a soloist.
Kaya maintains an active role in the Chicago jam scene, playing with some of the city's finest classical, jazz and funk musicians. This multi-genre exploration helps her create a unique and expressive sound by mixing classical technique with the improvisational freedom of jazz. This real world experience, combined with traditional learning environments has been instrumental in the development of her unique style.
Other experience includes her performance in various chamber groups at DePaul, as well as directing and performing in some of her own chamber compositions. This includes pieces “It will come with time” for piccolo, 2 flutes, Bb Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, and Cello, and “Alleyways” for piccolo and piano, both written and performed by Ms. Egan.
She has studied under the guidance of Alyce Johnson of the Lyric Opera, Emma Gerstein of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Stefan Ragnar Holskuldssohn, principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic.
